Overview
This project in Kamiyama Town, Tokushima Prefecture is the renovation of a former warehouse to make it into a Café and Bistro. The owner, who lived in Tokyo and worked for an IT company, decided to acquire this old private house in Kamiyama town and open the restaurant.
One reason for this choice was that in 2011, Tokushima Prefecture had an optical network throughout its entire area, so it is possible to move away from Tokyo to Kamiyama, and still remain active at work, by using the Internet. The infrastructure provides both a rich natural environment and a complete IT environment. This restaurant has been a successful addition to this area and business has been good.
The kitchen is completely enclosed by glass windows and visible from the exterior, so people passing by can see what is happening inside. This fosters communication with the local community.
I tried to leave as much of the original interior as possible, melding the western image of a French restaurant with the antique image of the old house and coloring the whole black to pull it together and so that the restaurant guests and the food could be displayed to best advantage.
