Overview
This project was the construction of a legal consultation office for a judicial scrivener. The site is along a main road, and my design created a truly impressive structure.
The client requested that the office interior be a calm and warm space, using wood as a materials theme, so since it is close to Yoshino, the area of Nara prefecture that produces a lot of timber, I thought it would be a good idea to use the local material to construct the building.
For the structure, I used a ‘monostruct’ technique, which is my unique invention, and which consists of bolting 105 mm x 105 mm pieces of Yoshino cypress (prefecturally certified material) with metal joints. The elements of the building such as the wooden interior finish, the roof, load-bearing walls, and the exterior walls were pre-fabricated before being carried to the site. This made the construction efficient and saved a lot of construction time on the site.
